Getting Started

Start playing Rhythmio in your browser with standard key layouts and hardware setup.

UPDATED Sep 23, 2026

Rhythmio runs directly in desktop web browsers without an installer or external launcher. The game engine processes audio and inputs locally on your machine using the Web Audio API and Canvas rendering, while the server handles multiplayer synchronization and score validation.

System requirements

You need a desktop browser and a responsive keyboard:

  • A modern browser such as Chrome, Edge, Firefox, or Safari. Chromium browsers generally offer the lowest input latency.
  • A keyboard with multi-key rollover support.
  • Wired headphones or speakers. Bluetooth devices add 80 to 200 ms of wireless latency that degrades timing accuracy.

Starting the game

  1. Open play.rhythmio.net or select PLAY NOW on the homepage.
  2. Choose ARCADE for solo play and practice, or RYO ARENA for multiplayer matches.
  3. Select a track from the song wheel and press ENTER to start.

Guest players can jump into tracks immediately. Scores and configuration persist in your browser storage. You can sign in with Discord or Google at any time to sync your scores across devices and unlock the ranked ladder.

Default controls

The standard layout uses four lanes mapped to D, F, J, and K. You can rebind every key in SYSTEM CONFIG → Key Binds, including separate profiles for 4K through 8K charts.

Audio and timing calibration

Hardware audio buffers and display refresh rates vary between computers. Before adjusting timing offset manually, open SYSTEM CONFIG → Calibration and tap along with the metronome beat. The tool calculates your hardware offset and applies it to all tracks.
