Welcome to Rhythmio (“Rhythmio,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). These Terms of Service (“Terms”) constitute a legally binding agreement between you and Rhythmio governing your access to and use of our web client, ranked matchmaking services, chart editor, multiplayer lobbies, and online platform hosted at rhythmio.net and play.rhythmio.net (collectively, the “Service”).
By accessing the Service, creating an account, or participating in matches, you signify that you have read, understood, and agreed to be bound by these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree to these Terms, you must immediately discontinue use of the Service.
Privacy Policy Information For comprehensive disclosures regarding our data collection practices, security measures, account deletion procedures, and how we access, use, and protect Google user data in strict adherence to the Google API Services User Data Policy, please refer directly to our dedicated Privacy Policy.
1. Eligibility & Age Requirements
- Minimum Age: You must be at least 13 years of age (or the minimum legal age required in your jurisdiction to consent to digital processing without parental approval) to access or use the Service.
- Minors: If you are under 18 years of age or the age of majority where you live, you represent and warrant that your parent or legal guardian has reviewed, understood, and consented to these Terms on your behalf.
- Sanctions & Compliance: You represent that you are not barred from receiving internet services under the laws of applicable jurisdictions.
2. User Accounts & Session Authentication
2.1 Guest Sessions
Rhythmio supports instant guest play without account registration. Guest sessions store personal best scores, calibration settings, and custom chart files locally on your device via browser IndexedDB. Guest data is not backed up to Rhythmio cloud servers and will be lost if browser application cache is cleared, unless explicitly migrated to an authenticated account.
2.2 Account Creation & Third-Party OAuth
To participate in ranked matchmaking, verified global leaderboards, head-to-head multiplayer, and cloud synchronization, you must authenticate through a supported third-party identity provider (such as Discord or Google).
- You agree to provide accurate, current, and complete profile information.
- You are responsible for safeguarding your third-party credentials and all activity conducted through your authenticated session.
- You must immediately notify us at
support@rhythmio.netif you suspect unauthorized access or security breaches involving your account.
2.3 One Account Policy (Anti-Smurfing)
To safeguard competitive ladder balance and rating accuracy:
- Each individual player is permitted only one active primary account for ranked competitive play.
- Creating secondary, duplicate, or throwaway accounts (“smurfing”) to bypass MMR brackets, intentionally lose rating (“deranking”), inflate other players’ scores, or evade disciplinary penalties is strictly prohibited and subject to immediate suspension of all associated accounts.
3. Fair Play, Code of Conduct & Anti-Cheat
Rhythmio is built upon sub-millisecond hardware timing precision and honest competitive achievement. We enforce a zero-tolerance policy against manipulation, cheating, and harmful behavior.
3.1 Prohibited Technical Exploitation
You agree that you will not, directly or indirectly:
- Automation & Macros: Use bots, macros, auto-hitters, virtual keyboard injectors, or script tools designed to automatically trigger judgements or synchronize keypresses to song audio.
- Timing & Client Tampering: Modify, alter, patch, or tamper with the web client bundle, Web Audio clock timestamps, judgement tolerances, or scroll velocities to gain an unfair advantage.
- Network & Packet Manipulation: Intercept, spoof, inject, or tamper with WebSocket match packets, score submission payloads, or server-issued seeds.
- Memory Modification: Employ external debuggers, cheat engines, or memory-scanning utilities to alter game state in runtime memory.
3.2 Deterministic Replay Verification
All ranked matches and leaderboard submissions record high-resolution input timelines (hardware event timestamps, note releases, and key state transitions). Rhythmio servers run automated anti-cheat validators that reconstruct matches against cryptographic seeds:
- Submissions exhibiting impossible reaction timings, mathematical bot heuristics, or modified client signatures will be disqualified.
- We reserve the right to void any score, deduct rating points (RP), or impose permanent leaderboard bans upon detected anomalies.
3.3 Community Behavior
When interacting in multiplayer rooms, public lobbies, player handles, or community platforms, you agree never to:
- Engage in hate speech, harassment, stalking, bullying, or discrimination based on race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or religion.
- Transmit obscene, sexually explicit, defamatory, or unlawful material.
- Deliberately stall matches, grief multiplayer lobbies, or intentionally disconnect to avoid rating deductions.
- Impersonate Rhythmio team members, tournament administrators, or other players.
4. User-Generated Content & Beatmap Imports
4.1 Custom Charts & Note Choreographies
Rhythmio includes an in-browser chart editor enabling players to compose timing data, note placements, and scroll velocity effects (“User Charts”).
- You retain ownership and copyright in the original choreography, timing arrangements, and metadata you author.
- By uploading, sharing, or publishing a chart through the Service, you grant Rhythmio a perpetual, worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, transferable license to host, cache, parse, calculate statistics for, display, and distribute the chart to other players solely for facilitating gameplay within the Service.
4.2 Audio Tracks, Media & Copyright Compliance
- Rhythmio provides local client-side import capabilities (such as
.osubeatmap packages and audio files). When importing local songs, audio decoding occurs entirely within your browser memory. - You represent and warrant that you own or possess all requisite rights, licenses, and permissions to use any audio tracks, album art, or video assets you import or upload.
- You agree not to distribute or publicly publish beatmaps containing copyrighted musical works or media unless you possess express legal authorization from the respective rights holder.
4.3 DMCA / Intellectual Property Takedown Policy
Rhythmio complies with copyright protection laws. If you believe your copyrighted work has been made available on the Service in a manner that constitutes infringement, please submit a written DMCA takedown notice to:
- Email:
legal@rhythmio.net - Subject:
DMCA Notice: [Title of Work] - Include: (a) physical or electronic signature, (b) identification of the copyrighted work, (c) specific URL or identifier of the infringing material, (d) your contact information, and (e) a statement made under penalty of perjury that the claim is accurate and authorized.
5. Virtual Ratings, Leaderboards & Seasons
- No Monetary Value: Rating Points (RP), Matchmaking Rating (MMR), badges, ranks, and accuracy percentiles are purely virtual game metrics designed for skill calibration. They have no cash, real-world monetary, or cryptocurrency value and cannot be redeemed, sold, traded, or transferred.
- Formula Adjustments & Resets: We reserve the right to recalibrate rating calculations, adjust song difficulty coefficients, void illegitimate scores, and perform seasonal ladder resets as necessary to maintain competitive balance.
6. Intellectual Property Rights
All proprietary rights, title, and interest in and to the Rhythmio platform—including the web client software, audio scheduling engine, visual interface, artwork, branding, trademarks, sound effects, and server architecture—are owned by or licensed to Rhythmio.
Except as expressly authorized under these Terms or applicable open-source module licenses, you may not copy, reproduce, decompile, reverse-engineer, sell, or create derivative works of the proprietary backend services or platform code without prior written consent.
7. Service Availability & Disclaimers
7.1 “As-Is” Service
The Service is provided on an “AS IS” and “AS AVAILABLE” basis without warranties of any kind, whether express, statutory, or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, or uninterrupted availability.
7.2 Hardware & Browser Variations
Rhythmio relies on browser technologies including the Web Audio API, WebGL, and high-frequency DOM event handlers. Performance, input latency, and display refresh rates may vary depending on your hardware, keyboard rollover capabilities, operating system, and browser vendor. We do not guarantee uniform latency across unverified hardware configurations.
8. Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED UNDER APPLICABLE LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL RHYTHMIO, ITS DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, CONTRIBUTORS, OR AFFILIATES BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES—INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO LOSS OF DATA, REPUTATION, GOODWILL, HARDWARE DAMAGE, OR PLAY TIME—ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO YOUR ACCESS, USE, OR INABILITY TO USE THE SERVICE, EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.
9. Disciplinary Actions & Termination
We reserve the right, in our sole discretion and without prior notice or liability, to:
- Issue warnings, reset rating points, or purge scores from leaderboards.
- Temporarily restrict accounts from ranked matchmaking or multiplayer lobbies.
- Permanently suspend, ban, or terminate accounts found guilty of cheating, botting, harassment, or material violation of these Terms.
You may terminate your agreement with Rhythmio at any time by ceasing all use of the Service and requesting account deletion via profile settings or by emailing support@rhythmio.net.
10. Governing Law & Dispute Resolution
These Terms and any dispute arising out of or related to them shall be governed by and construed in accordance with applicable laws, without regard to conflict of law principles. Before initiating formal legal proceedings, you and Rhythmio agree to attempt to resolve any dispute, claim, or controversy through informal, good-faith negotiation by contacting legal@rhythmio.net.
11. Amendments & Updates
We may update these Terms from time to time to reflect product enhancements, security practices, or legal obligations. When updates occur, the “Last Revised” date at the top of this document will be amended. Significant modifications will be announced through platform banners or our official Discord community. Your continued use of the Service following published updates constitutes your binding acceptance of the revised Terms.
