Is Rhythmio free to play?
Yes. Rhythmio runs directly in desktop web browsers without subscription fees, microtransactions, or required downloads.
Do I need an account to play?
No account is required. In guest mode, you can play the complete built-in tracklist, import custom beatmaps, and join multiplayer lobbies. Your key bindings, calibration values, and personal best scores remain stored in local browser storage.
Signing in with Discord or Google unlocks cross-device score synchronization, a public profile page, and ranked ladder tracking.
Why is my single-player high score missing from the global leaderboard?
Global leaderboards only accept scores verified in real time by the game server during multiplayer and ranked matches. Because client-side single-player data could be altered locally, solo plays are restricted to your personal profile statistics. Your best solo plays still contribute directly to your top 8 profile rating.
What happens to my guest scores when I sign in?
When you sign in for the first time on a browser with existing guest data, Rhythmio prompts you to either merge your local records into your online account or retain the account’s existing profile history. Imported beatmaps and custom editor charts in browser storage remain untouched in both cases.
How can I reduce audio and input latency?
- Play in fullscreen mode. Fullscreen bypasses operating system window compositing layers and allows the browser to synchronize with your monitor’s highest refresh rate.
- Use wired audio gear. Wireless Bluetooth headphones introduce between 80 and 200 ms of hardware buffer latency, which disrupts tight timing windows like PERFECT+ (±20 ms).
- Run the automated calibration wizard in SYSTEM CONFIG → Calibration to match your audio output with your visual response.
- Verify that hardware acceleration is turned on in your browser settings.
Can I play my custom charts in multiplayer?
Yes, provided every participant in the room has imported the exact same chart. The server computes a cryptographic hash from each client’s chart file. When all room members report matching hashes, the host can start the match. Draft charts that exist only on your computer remain playable in single-player mode.
